YOUR GROUP’S NEXT SPEAKER

I suppose we all know that history is pretty boring, right? If that’s what you think, you should hear what Ross Malone has to say about it. Ross is a Missouri historian who writes about all of those people, places, and events that should be well-known but aren’t. This teacher, radio host, newspaper columnist, and speaker has written twenty books and numerous magazine articles and newspaper columns about the fascinating things all around us both past and present. Here are a few ideas for your organization’s next meeting, big or small.
Unique Missouri
There are so many things right in Missouri that are found nowhere else. There is so much of our history that is unlike any other place. Good or bad, important or downright silly, these fascinating people, places, and events make us unique. Lots of great trivia and lots to think about. Missouri’s Forgotten Heroes
(Ross’ most popular presentation)
Genuine heroes have been in our state since the beginning and some are well-known. Others just aren’t. Wait until you hear about some of the accomplishments and heroism that has been all but forgotten. And what of our modern day Missouri heroes? Who are they and why don’t we know about them? Your grandchildren may someday know more about these contemporary heroes than you. (This requires a room suitable for a projector or a flat screen television adaptable to a laptop computer.)

Our Medal of Honor Recipients
The same intrepid drive and risk-taking that earned our nation’s highest honor for these Missouri men also led them to do some amazing things in the rest of their lives as well. You will love learning about these men of extreme valor! (This presentation requires a room suitable for a projector or a flat screen television adaptable to a laptop computer.)

Sometimes your Civic Club or Teachers’ Meeting can only devote a few minutes to a speaker’s presentation. Those listed above require about an hour but those listed below can be presented well in about half that time. Check and see if these might meet your needs.
An American Safari
(Driving the Alaska Highway)
Ross and Doris Malone are experienced travelers on the miracle road called the Alaska Highway. Learn how to drive for thousands of miles among majestic and inspiring scenery while surrounded by black, brown, and grizzly bears along with Dahl sheep, mountain goats, moose, caribou, bison, and more. On their last trip Ross and Doris drove 10,500 miles in one month and spent a total of $2,012.00 for all expenses combined. Their vehicle was a Ford Explorer. Learn how to save on meals, accommodations, and other expenses. Get ready to go or just to dream. It’s up to you but it’s fun even to just think about. (This presentation requires a room suitable for a projector or a flat screen television adaptable to a laptop computer.)

Missouri Cryptids, Madstones, & Ozarks Child-Rearin’
There are creatures in Missouri whose existence is up for debate. Do they exist or not? Are snot otters real? How about the Ozarks Howler or those speedy hoop snakes? And when was the last time you used a madstone? You can bet your ancestors believed in these things and some people still may. We’ll even talk about some old-timey ways to be good parents. Hold on to your hats for this one! You’re in for some surprises. (This presentation requires a room suitable for a projector or a flat screen television adaptable to a laptop computer.)
